Italics in Floated Containers and Internet Explorer
I’ve finally solved the puzzle of the mysterious fat italics. A few sites I have worked on recently have made use of italic text in floated containers. You’d have thought that Microsoft would have thought to just wrap the text to fit, but no, Internet Explorer seems to increase the containers’ width, in order to accomodate the extra space required for the leaning characters, even if you’ve already set their width! Colour schemes
I’ve just finished a website for Deli Fifty Nine, a café and outside catering business in Leeds. It’s quite a simple site, advertising the café and Leeds outside catering business. I wanted it to reflect the fact that it has new management, who have put a lot of effort into redecoration. It’s amazing what effect careful choice of colour schemes can have on presentation.
LetsGo get a liquid layout
For a while now, I’ve wanted to have a crack at a ‘liquid layout’ web site; that is, a site that grows and shrinks with the browser window. Where I work, they insist on centred fixed-width sites of 760 pixels, which is fine, but it gets a bit boring after a while! Read the rest of this entry »
