Homemade Skin for Flickr

As a keen photographer, I have my own pages at Flickr.com. Like many Flickr users I felt that the default white background can be less than flattering to many of the photographs it hosts. You’d have thought that they would provide alternatives, but they don’t. So, I went in search of alternatives myself.

I eventually found a workaround in the form of a Firefox add-on, called Stylish. This general-purpose add-on enables the ’skinning’ of your favourite websites by overriding its CSS. You can apply any styles to specific sites, or even all sites. And you can also look for restyling already done by other people.

I knocked up my own skin for Flickr, called Flickr: Light Grey Background. It replaces the white background with a light grey one, and fixes most of the other resulting side effects, like font colour contrast. Feel free to give it a try.
